Sideritis, also known as Greek Mountain Tea: an introduction

The Mediterranean is the home of the Sideritis plant, typically referred to as Greek Mountain Tea, which is a member of the Lamiaceae aromatic plant family. It is a herbaceous perennial that grows in high altitudes, and relatively barren areas that are subject to frequent and extreme temperature changes.

Interestingly enough, although it provides a plethora of nutrients to humans, Sideritis requires a bare minimum of water and nutrients to grow.

In Greece we are blessed with more than 14 indigenous subspecies of the Sideritis plant, while it is the only place in the world where it has been cultivated systematically and in accordance with the standards of organic agriculture for decades.

Greek Mountain Tea, unlike black tea, does not need any processing or fertilization during its cultivation or collection.
